Excited that 2022 has started? Then you're definitely looking forward to all the upcoming 2022 movies that will be coming out. There are major studios releasing 2022 movies like Disney/Pixar's Turning Red, Marvel's Thor: Love and Thunder, and 20th Century Studios's Avatar 2. The most anticipated movies of 2022 are sure to "wow" audiences, from major action epics to to hearfelt dramas. 2022 is bound to be a fantastic year for upcoming Hollywood movies.
You might notice a few films that were slated to come out years before but due to COVID19, they had been delayed and we can't wait to watch them once they come out in 2022. On the surface, Turning Red is about how 13-year old Mei Lee turns into a giant red panda whenever she gets too excited. But like all Disney/Pixar animated films, there's a little more to it. Mei Lee is caught between cultures as a Chinese-Canadian and also caught between wanting to be a good daughter and wanting to be a mischievous adolescent. No doubt there will be a satisfying and heartwarming resolution. Multiple time Grammy winner Ludwig Göransson will score the film while rookie Domee Shi will make her directorial debut. Turning Red is out March 11, 2022.

Continuing the multiverse storyline, the MCU will be releasing its 28th film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, on May 6, 2022. Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff AKA Scarlet Witch joins Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, and Chiwetel Ejiofor as they help Dr. Stephen Strange face off against his most powerful foe yet: an alternate version of himself.

Thor: Love and Thunder, the direct sequel to Thor: Ragnarok and the fourth Thor movie in the MCU, is flying into theaters July 8, 2022. While Chris Hemsworth will return as the Asgardian Avenger, director Taika Waititi has said that Natalie Portman's character Jane Foster will gain superpowers of her own while undergoing cancer treatment, a storyline based on Jason Aaron's run on the Mighty Thor comics. The Guardians of the Galaxy will also return, with Christian Bale making his Marvel debut as the supervillain Gorr the God Butcher.

After multiple delays, Matt Reeves's The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, is finally hitting theaters on March 4, 2022. Featuring Zoe Kravitz as Catwoman, Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, and Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot AKA The Penguin, the "dark" reboot will see a young Bruce Wayne investigating corruption in Gotham City and stopping the Riddler (Paul Dano).

This sequel to Sony's groundbreaking Into the Spiderverse will websling into theatres on October 7, 2022 to audiences everywhere. Shameik Moore is back in the recording booth as the voice of the loveable Miles Morales along with Hailee Steinfeld as Gwen Stacy, and Jake Johnson as Peter B. Parker. Issa Rae and Oscar Isaac will also be lending their voices as Jessica Drew and Miguel O'Hara respectively.

Ah, Top Gun. It's a film known for a lot of things, mainly its heart-pounding action sequences and iconic high-five routines. 36 years after the original, Tom Cruise suits up once again in this next installment entitled Top Gun: Maverick. Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris, and Val Kilmer all join the fray with Kilmer reprising his role from the first film. Top Gun: Maverick releases on May 27, 2022.

Ever since Avatar became the highest-grossing movie in 2009, audiences have been waiting for the sequel. Now after 13 years, James Cameron's Avatar 2 is set to be released on December 16, 2022. With Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, and Vin Diesel joining the cast, the epic sci-fi film has been delayed eight times, so don't be surprised if the release date gets pushed again. There are currently plans for three more sequels to be released, respectively, on December 20, 2024, December 18, 2026 and December 22, 2028.

After The Suicide Squad, the DCEU brings fans another movie centered around a supervillain. A spin-off of Shazam!, Black Adam stars Dwayne Johnson as the titular antihero who has similar powers as Shazam. Coming to theaters July 29, 2022, the superhero movie will also feature Justice Society of America (JSA) members Atom Smasher (Noah Centineo), Hawkman (Aldis Hodge), Cyclone (Quintessa Swindell), and Doctor Fate (Pierce Brosnan).
SamaritanSylvester Stallone, Martin Starr
Sylvester Stallone has played every type of tough guy known to man...except an actual superhero. That changes with the release of Samaritan. Stallone plays an assumed missing superhero while co-star Javon Walton, best known for his role as Ashtray on Euphoria, plays the child that may just pull him out of retirement. Julius Avery is set to direct this dark, new take on the superhero genre which lands in theaters August 26, 2022.

The third movie in the sequel trilogy, Jurassic World Dominion stomps into theaters June 10, 2022. Set four years after Fallen Kingdom, the sci-fi adventure movie brings back Chris Pratt, Bryce Dallas Howard, and Jeff Goldblum, along with original Jurassic Park stars Sam Neill and Laura Dern as Dr. Alan Grant and Dr. Ellie Sattler, respectively.

Somewhere in the mix, an inspector and an overeager rookie find themselves in the middle of it all.

An exploration of multiple universes and the possibilities contained within them is the heart of this zany, sci-fi adventure film. Michelle Yeoh stars in Everything Everywhere All at Once which releases March 25, 2022. This marks the second collaborative effort by Dan Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, together dubbed 'Daniels', with the first being 2016's Swiss Army Man.

Welcome back our favorite Gemini vegetarian! Elle Woods makes a return to the big screen in Legally Blonde 3 out on May 20, 2022. Reese Witherspoon reprises her role after almost 20 years with Jamie Suk directing. Mindy Kaling and Brooklyn Nine-Nine co-creator Dan Goor are scripting the upcoming sequel.

One of the more complicated heroes in the Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters roster, Morbius is set to take flight and flash his fangs on April 1, 2022, after several delayed release dates. The film will follow the titular hero, as played by Oscar winner Jared Leto, as he deals with the consequences of infecting himself with vampirism in order to cure his rare blood disease. Starring alongside Leto are Matt Smith, Tyrese Gibson, Jared Harris, and Adria Arjona, while Micheal Keaton returns to the Spiderverse to play Adrian Toomes (a.k.a. Vulture from Spiderman: Homecoming).

George Miller directs a fantasy film about a scholar, played by Tilda Swinton, who meets a Djinn, played by Idris Elba, who offers to grant her three wishes, but instead the scholar offers him her wishes in exchange for his freedom. This epic romance has yet to have an official release date.

Ticket to Paradise follows Wren Butler and her best friend Lily on a post-graduation jaunt to Bali where Lily's sudden decision to marry a local has her meddling parents trying to thwart the romance. Breakout stars Billie Lourd, Lucas Bravo, and Kaitlyn Dever star alongside A-list royalty Julia Roberts and George Clooney in this vacationing romantic comedy. Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again director Ol Parker was tapped to direct the film, set to enter theaters October 21, 2022.

Known for his horror movies The Witch and The Lighthouse, director Robert Eggers presents his reimagining of a medieval Scandinavian legend, The Northman. Premiering April 22, 2022, the epic revenge thriller stars Alexander Skarsgård as a Viking prince seeking justice for his murdered father. The cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicole Kidman, Willem Dafoe, Ethan Hawke, Claes Bang, and Icelandic singer Björk.

Ezra Miller, Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Callum Turner, and Claudia Kim are all set to return in addition to Mads Mikkelsen who will replace Johnny Depp as Grindelwald.
