Action movies had a lot of heart in the 2000s. That's not to say they don't have heart today, but it pumps a little slower. Think of the best action flicks of the decade - Iron Man, I Am Legend, The Dark Knight, Sin City, etc. - and you'll recall scenes of intense combat and intense sadness. Here are some of the saddest action movie deaths and moments.

One of doesthedogdie.com's worst offenders, I Am Legend presents viewers with a gorgeous German shepherd as the sole companion of Neville, the supposed "last man on Earth," only to have it perish in his arms. Worse still, Neville puts down the dog himself, as it has become infected with the civilization-ending virus and is becoming zombified in real time.
Neville does it as an act of mercy - although no mercy is given to viewers.Sad moment?

For a comedy movie, Shaun of the Dead has no shortage of sad scenes. Case in point: when Shaun is forced to kill his mother after she turns into a zombie.
Following an absurd yet heart-wrenching standoff over how to proceed with the infected Barbara (Shaun's mom), she stands up, looking completely ravenous, making the answer simple. Shaun takes the gun, aims it at her head, says "I'm sorry, Mom," and then blasts her to pieces.
The little bit of recognition Barbara shows after Shaun says "I'm sorry, Mom" might be the saddest part of the scene.Sad moment?
